i just finished my first day interacting with students. we had an orientation lab this morning ("no food or drink, no open-toed shoes, don't eat the capacitors") which basically went well, although apparently it took less than one day for one student to decide he wants a new lab partner. i then attended the lecture portion of the class, mostly so that the students could see who i am. i won't have to attend more of them. then this afternoon i led two of the tutorial sections in which i made every attempt to pick on all students equally. i also tried not to act like r. lee ermey ("what is your major malfunction, numb-nuts??"), since they are impressionable young children and this was the first day of class. i think the tutorials went okay. i got through all the material in almost exactly the allotted time and i think one or two light bulbs went on in the students. hopefully, anyway.
mondays will be my longest days, with 1 lab and two tutorials, but i think it will be okay. i guess we'll see at the end of the semester what they think of me.

let us know what you choose as "extra credit" questions for the labs. if you are anything but wildly popular, i will make the necessary "arrangements"...
